where have all the good times gone?

today is my birthday. i'm 34 . 5 years ago, i had a small party at my then girlfriend's apt, which included my mom and some close friends. after the party, we went to workplay to see that other guy from uncle tupelo. he sucks. 10 years ago, i had to go to traffic court on my birthday, and i got railroaded by a cop who totally lied about me making a turn. my dad had died a week earlier, and i had a party at downtown disney/orlando with my room mate, mom and my gf at the time. i dressed really strange back then. 15 years ago, i turned 19. i was living in my stepfather's apartment that was annexed to the rock club he owned. i was working at the mall. life was good. i had a great party at home with all of my guy and girlfriends. my hair was super long. good times. 20 years ago, i got my first new, chrome, rock drum kit. my first band rehearsed in my bedroom on my birthday... lot of teens and adults did some heavy drinking. all of my best friends were there. i had a mullet. i...

last gigs of the summer

friday night. dj set at speakeasy. all rock set. good crowd. had some nice responses to the local rock tracks i played. had a few technical glitches, but my troubleshooting saved the evening. saturday, alison and i went to atlanta and i played with the spots at a coffee shop called community grounds... it was their opening night. we basically played in a back room covered with soft chars and curtains. we played much better than we did at workplay. i think we found the entire performance completely effortless. it was hot as heck in there, so i wore a t-shirt. classy. also... also, i think i got the ebola throat virus from all the smoke at speakeasy. here's some pics from alison's cell - the dj set in birmingham, followed by the spots gig in atlanta: ...and there's also an inside joke that you won't get.
