if the united states can be divided up into evolutionary eras... it might go like this . 1789 - 1865 / america as an agricultural semi-isolationist nation w/ strong regional loyalties & and an emerging industrial base / continental expansion. 1866 - 1945 / america as an emerging global industrial & technological leader, post-civil war / immigration boom / followed by post ww2 economic & labor capital. 1945 - 2009 / america as global superpower, victor of the cold-war / the emerging capitalistic-pro democratic-mega-power of the new century. 2009 - an emerging consolidation of power by government, of the private sector & the socialization of industry & civil services via proposed programs such as: universal government subsidized healthcare, government/union controlled industrial conglomerates, coopted banking sector, corporatization of government services - propped up by the passing of today's 3.4 trillion dollar spending bill aka the neo-socialization act ....

stay hungry , a 1976 film starring jeff bridges, sally field and the future governor of the state of the 9th largest economy on the planet, was filmed at my gym across the street from my office. scenes were also shot a few blocks down on 1st ave, morris ave, and around birmingham. this is mainly because the novel was based in birmingham, and morris avenue was a cheap but popular place to film in the 1970's. i haven't seen it yet, but i'mma look around for it.
