still no skybucket complilation of the local rock scene...
i bought the (newly reformed) tears for fears cd. i've been a huge fan of tff leader roland orzabal since highschool, although i liked (like everyone else in america) the song everybody wants to rule the world way back in '85. curt (the cute one) left in '92 and roland continued on without him, releasing one of my favorite albums ever - elemental, followed by raoul and the kings of spain, and a b-sides collection.
he decided to hang it up in 2001 and released a solo album. unfortunately he had distribution problems (don't we all?) and it was released during the 9/11 north american consumer black hole.
well, curt and roland got back together and have essentially recorded the follow-up album to 1989's seminal pop masterpiece, the seeds of love -which it took 4 years and almost $1 million to produce. they put the "big" in "'80s". in the past decade, after both guys ventured off into lush pop, electronic, heavier rock, even spanish flamenco and dn'b... they've come full circle. the new album called... everybody loves a happy ending is devastating. it might be the most perfectly produced, well written pop-rock album of the year. ok moving on.
why is my bank open on columbus day, but other's aren't? why is national "coming-out" day on the same day? that's not very progressive.
watched the incredible documentary about almost-famous pop-art-performance artist and collage-mailer, ray johnson. damn. i've read bits and pieces about him, but this was off the hook. i liked it so much i cannibalized three of his works for the new temporary ashes site. i like it. i've added, for the non-linear web surfer in all of us, hyperlinks for anything i feel like referencing. or finding. or spending the time to code. i like it.
in closing... christopher reeves was superman in every sense of the word. what a kick-ass way to conduct one's life. god better be spending tons of our money to prepare mr. reeves his very own cloud. i'm out.
