i mentioned in my previous post that i helped out on a silly film competition for the sidewalk scramble... which is associated with the sidewalk film festival. well, at the awards thingy a few weeks back, we took home the best music award and best actor. pretty flash for a 5 min film that took zero money and 48 hours to make. anyway... here it is. there is a dvd that has been made with about an hour of outtakes. i laughed so hard i soiled myself.
what else...
on the 13th i went to bottletree to see the guy from sunny day real estate and and some other hiipster band. aileen came down from hville and she was pretty awesome. that's all i'mma say. cuz she's shy.
i've been playing shows with duquette johnston and a few weeks ago i went out to atlanta to play a laid back set with him and the boys from TTS at the star bar. it was the most enjoyable time i've had yet playing atlanta. mainly because the guys were cool and i didn't really have to load any gear. we also have a show in tenn. scheduled on the 9th.
right now the same group of guys are rehearsing with local indie legend john p. strohm. he's an up and coming lawyer in town but back in the day he toured with blake babies and the lemonheads. super nice guy. and he writes some brutaly catchyl indie pop.
we are only gonna get in a few rehearsals... i'm playing drums. bottletree this sat.
and here's a somewhat highly anticipated show coming up in december... this will be the first show to feature duquette and aa bondy, both original members of verbena... in their respective solo entities. very cool... its nice that we finally have a venue in town that forces people to drive from nashville and memphis andatlanta to see a show.
what else...
my mom went to guantanamo bay, cuba for a week and took a bunch of pics. an odd place for a vacation, but she's kinda strange. she likes to go to places like north africa and turkey.
got an email from my college roommate, steve wilson. of all my old world peeps, he's the one who has changed the most for the better. he recently quit a lucrative design job in seattle... and is currently in florida waiting to relocate (for a while) to europe. that's the stuff that heroes are made of. i know too many young people who get sucked into families and corporations without ever pondering the other options.
suddenly i wanna skip my nashville / austin / nyc ideas... and jump over the pond.
america sucks, no?
this week... finishing up the liner art stuff for the wiseblood record, gonna catch the last episode of jericho of course... maybe catch up on some yoga and there's some art gallery opening thingy i'm supposed to go to. last week ashby and i got a first look at the layout. carl ross has done a great job of sorting thru all of the artwork that was given to us by chris lawson.
its kinda silly that a hushed little local indie record... not really meant to be heard by too many people... is getting this big crazy baddass album art. its aesthetically top heavy. but that's fine. the next record will be the opposite... it will sound great and have minimal art.
