trina shoemaker, probably my favorite producer in the (non-electronic) sense, is a baddass. check this out. i noticed this back in 2000 when queens of the stone age released their second album, which trina produced.
get a copy of or download these two songs...
"everyday is a winding road" from sheryl crow's second album - sheryl crow
and
"better living thru chemistry" from qotsa's second album - rated r.
listen to how each song begins. crazy. same congos. same guitar rhythm. now of course the chords are different... but i can't help but come to the conclusion that trina likes to start songs with layered congos and a jangly riff.
seriously... check it out.
it's kinda funny... one song was a huge hit with happy lyrics. and the other never got played on the radio, and is very very dark.
that's probably why i like trina.
oh... what else...
paint something on my paint app on my page. then take a screen shot and send it to me. or post the screenshot on this blog.
i'm trying to get a new apt, but i have a goal set for myself and i want a certain amount in the bank before i move. and everytime i try to get closer, something really nutty happens and it takes a few hundred out of the mix.
i wanna go somewhere for new years. maybe LA. or Detroit. or Phoenix.
I'd like to go to nyc, but i've gotta chill with the nyc thing for a while. me and nyc were dating there for a few years and she started to get a little clingy. so i had to tell nyc that i needed some space.
now she's trying to get the dish from my friends. but they aren't talking. i'll probably end up being with nyc in the long run, but for now there's other coties i'd like to see. like maybe austin or miami.
ummm....
i have a choice to make. stay in town and see kings of leon and the like... then ambulance ltd... here in bham? or... travel all the way up to ashville, nc to see wilco play in a gymnasium? it's tough 'cause i'm actually in a wilco mode right now. and i don't even really like kings of leon much. however, i like ambulance ltd... especially live. in the past year i've seen ambulance twice and wilco twice.
i'm 60-40 leaning toward staying in bham.
the album i've been recording/producing since jan 2004 is getting closer to just being in the editing/mixing stage. as opposed to the writing/recording/arranging/editing stage.
we are gonna have a listening party when it's done. and i'm gonna get hammered. we are thinking about workplay or some big cafe for the listening party... but if anyone has any ideas... lemme know.
